The original concept of Jacob being "in (eros ) love" with the man who raised him was too yucky to contemplate. I know there has been a recency tradition of a ward falling for a guardian, but this was an adopted 7 year-old now nearly 24 years old who wanted to an intimate relationship with the man who had been his and his younger brother's surrogate "father". Even he knows this is a bad idea, but he can't shake the desire to be with the older demon. Though he knows it doesn't stop his stubborn streak and set plans, which he won't change until he accomplishes his goal of showing Zed that he is now an adult. Capable, smart, tough, resourceful. Even though he knew they weren't mates. I am so glad for that.

After the lion shifter that realized he was foolhardy Jacob's mate I began to really get into and enjoy the story. Lots going on. A bunch of new characters were introduced. We got to meet both Jacob's brother and the lion shifter's estranged brother. As well as a gruff elder vampire, Bishop who has a good heart, but a really tough exterior. We find out more details about our slimy friend Sam. There are multiple mysteries that definitely need more volumes to flesh out the stories behind them. And then of course there are the supernatural men and "humans" who all deserve to find their mates, even those who claim they don't want one.

What I like about Jacob is that he was so foolish and comical in all the ways he went about things. It was entertaining reading about his antics. How he liked to portray himself as a tough guy who could protect his lion shifter friend if necessary, or the powerful older grampire whom he kept wanting to stay back & let him lead. He had a lot to prove mostly to himself. If he could pretend to be brave maybe it could actually come true.

Jacob thought he was in love until he met Griffin. This book reminds you of your teenage love and how you thought oh I'll never love again. Then you grow up meet your husband and then you realize the difference. Powerful love story, hot sex, mystery, family drama and adventure makes this story a 5 star.
